Last June ICANN’s new gTLD program reached a key milestone with the public announcement of all the applications it had received.
All expectations were surpassed with a total of 1,930 applications for 1,409 unique string names. With the first of the applications potentially being delegated towards the last quarter of 2013 the ultimate number of top-level domains will drastically increase.
Having swept the digital archery concept under the carpet (for the time being), the program is now well into the evaluation phase. However, many processes remain undecided and ICANN has heavily involved the community in a bid to gather ideas and develop solutions to solve some pressing issues such as the mechanics of the trademark clearinghouse and the pre-delegation metering/ batching issues. The ICANN Toronto meeting seems the perfect place for ICANN to shed some new light on these issues and potentially reach a number of decisions.
With the above being hotly discussed in the community, now is the perfect time for trademark owner to start thinking of how this new online landscape will affect them, how they will remain relevant, compete effectively and protect their IP rights all at the same time across a vastly increased internet space..
How do you ensure that when the first new gTLDs are delegated the right budget and strategic approach has been agreed and you are not left playing catch-up?
What should brand and trademark owners be looking out for and will things really be that different to what we all know about the internet today?
What strategic approach should you decide upon before the first new gTLDs go live?
Join us on this webinar to learn about:
- The outcome of the ICANN Toronto meeting and the next steps in the new gTLD program
- What you should start planning before the introduction of new gTLDs
- Brand protection and optimisation considerations around the new gTLDs space
