    The management of data within the context of a lawsuit, transaction or agency action. Remember that the rules of procedure only cover what happens between the parties, but "e-discovery" proper also includes what happens to other data as it moves in and out of a party's control.

    eDiscovery: The process of identifying, locating, retrieval and reporting of electronic records and or documents in response to a court or legal request for information. This can happen as a result of a court order or a request of legal opposition representation. Depending on the technology available to produce the documents and or records, the reliability of the technology to produce it, the reliability of the business process to produce information and the degree of reasonable compliance with requests this process may be over-ruled and a court ordered search of all potential paper, electronic records and communications, including forensic examination of disks, may be ordered.
